Dr. Gong-Guy received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at UCLA. She completed internships at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center. She is a generalist with expertise in post-traumatic stress, mood disorders, refugee and immigrant mental health, multicultural and diversity issues, couples therapy, evidence-based treatments, and training in mental health and clinical supervision. Her experiences in community psychology, program evaluation and suicide prevention programming have highlighted innovative models of service delivery to underserved populations. Dr. Gong-Guy has served as a Psychology Examining Committee Commissioner on the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, a site-visitor for the American Psychological Association Committee on Accreditation, and a consultant to the National Center for Asian American Mental Health. Dr. Gong-Guy is Co-Principal Investigator of the UCLA Access to Care Program, an alcohol and substance screening and brief intervention study currently being conducted at CAPS in conjunction with the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs at UCLA’s Semel Institute.

Dr. Babl received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University. He is a generalist, whose treatment approach integrates analytic models with more active, short-term interactive models. He has expertise in sexual identity/LGBT issues, male sexuality (e.g. sexual dysfunction, compulsive sexual behavior), men’s issues (e.g. male role conflicts, men molested as children), HIV spectrum (infected, at risk, sero-discordant couples), and couples therapy. His other clinical interests include bereavement, crystal meth and other substance abuse, and ADHD.
He serves on the Clinical Training Committee and is a clinical supervisor within our APA-accredited Internship Training Program. Dr. Babl directs the department’s Continuing Education Program, which awards State of California MCEP credits to clinical staff and select colleagues on campus. He also serves as department liaison to the Humanities Division of the College of Letters and Sciences, the School of Art and Architecture, the Anderson School of Management and the University Religious Conference.
Peter Kassel, Psy.D.

Dr. Kassel received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University of Denver. He completed internship at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center, and postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Community Health. Dr. Kassel is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. His experiences span inpatient and outpatient medical populations, community-based mental health, college mental health services, and private practice populations. He is a generalist in individual, couples and group psychotherapy, with expertise in relationship concerns, LGBT issues, depression, anxiety, despair and grief, training of mental health professionals and clinical supervision. Other clinical interests include coping with medical illness, working with medical professionals, men’s sexuality and sexual health, adjustment to parenting, and transition to college life. His treatment approach includes the integration of psychodynamic and contemporary analytic theories, evidence-based treatments, and brief interventions. In addition, Dr. Kassel is the Board Vice-President of GLAD, New England’s largest civil rights organization. He also serves as Commissioner for the Massachusetts Governor’s Commission for Gay and Lesbian Youth.

Dr. Kaplan received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from UCLA. She is a generalist with particular expertise in relationship problems, academic problems, test-taking anxiety, stage performance anxiety, and self-concept/self-esteem issues. In addition to her Clinical duties, Dr. Kaplan has served as a clinical supervisor for Post- Doctoral students. Dr. Kaplan serves as department liaison to the Philosophy Department. As a past chair of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association, Dr. Kaplan has long-standing interests and expertise in professional ethics. |
