The University of California at Los Angeles Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) announces the availability of 2 post-doctoral Fellowships for 2009-2010 in Psychology. The 12-month full-time Fellowhsip provides advanced clinical training and supervision with a focus on brief therapy in a multidisciplinary, multicultural university counseling center. The Fellowhsip begins July 1, 2009 and ends
June 30, 2010.
UCLA CAPS is a vibrant and highly utilized counseling service, situated between the Residence Halls and the Student Union and adjacent to the Wooden Recreation Center and the Ashe Student Health Center. UCLA’s student population is considerably diverse in almost every measure, and reflects a remarkable array of ethnic, socio-cultural and religious backgrounds. Clients present with a broad range of psychological and psychiatric problems, from developmental issues typical of college age individuals to debilitating conditions requiring psychiatric hospitalization. Fellows’ responsibilities include intake assessment, crisis intervention, individual, couples and group psychotherapy, assessment, supervision of practicum students, and workshops and presentations for the campus community. Other responsibilities may be added. Fellows will function with a special emphasis in areas such as eating disorders, health psychology, alcohol/substance abuse, and group psychotherapy and are encouraged to develop areas of additional specialization and outreach in consultation with Director of Training. Fellows are expected to design and implement programs for targeted populations.
Required Qualifications : Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited internship and possess a doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start date of the Fellowship (July 1, 2009). Applicants must also possess demonstrated interest and ample experience working with diverse multicultural college student populations. In Very strong clinical competency and experience with brief psychotherapies are required. In addition to functioning as generalists, Fellows are required to specialize in one of several potential clinical areas as above. For purposes of licensure, it is expected that the Fellows will accrue over 1,700 hours of supervised professional experience by the completion of the training year.
Benefits and Compensation: The Fellowship includes medical benefits (excluding dental and vision benefits). Pursuant to University of California policies, this Fellowship requires a background check prior to the start date. The stipend for the Fellowship is $38,000.

A completed application should include the following: a cover letter indicating your specific interest in the UCLA CAPS Fellowship; current curriculum vita, including the anticipated date of your graduation; and three letters of recommendation from sources familiar with your clinical skills and academic background. One of these must be from the Director of Training or the Director of your internship site.
Application materials must arrive no later than January 30, 2009. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
Finalists will be interviewed in person or by telephone. Those applicants invited to interview will be contacted by February 6, 2009.
Applicants will be notified regarding the status of their application by February 27, 2009.
