Dr. McDonald is a licensed psychologist who received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her formal training included an internship at the Albany Psychology Internship Consortium in New York and externship with undergraduate students at Hampshire College. Dr. McDonald received specialized training in psychosocial rehabilitation during her fellowship year at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Her clinical interests include working with individuals who have experienced trauma, psychosis, insomnia, or mood disorders, and also providing group and couple psychotherapy. Dr. McDonald works from a philosophy that emphasizes personal wellness and resiliency, with an eye toward identifying and enhancing each person’s unique strengths. Her therapeutic style is integrative, drawing from behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based approaches. Prior to joining CAPS, Dr. McDonald served as the Program Director for the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) at the Palo Alto VA, and also worked with veterans and their families in the VA outpatient mental health clinic.
